"Sleeping badgers" shows four European badgers (Meles meles) curled up together underground. During a spell of bitterly cold weather, as I lay in my own warm bed, I imagined the badgers nestling together warm and dry in their sett, safe beneath the roots of a tree as snow falls.

This painting is a limited edition of 8 drypoint prints (7 plus an artist's proof).

Each is printed by hand using a 'plate' I make myself from soft polypropylene. I draw and scratch into it with an etching needle to create incised marks. I ink up this plate, place a piece of damp heavy duty paper on top, run it through the press - and hey presto! - you get a handmade print! After the ink has dried, I tint each image with watercolour so that each one is a slightly different and absolutely unique original piece.
